The time has come to announce the changes I hinted at in my last post!
While New York City will always have a (big) piece of my heart, after much deliberation I have relocated to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania!
New York clients, don’t worry too much, I will be back every month to make sure you stay fabulous. You can contact me on the same number and I will still be working out of Salon No. 15.
Pittsburgh clients, I will be working by appointment out of the East Liberty/Garfield area. Get in touch with me using one of these methods.
One of the first things I took part in to let Pittsburgh know I’d arrived was the hair for a first Friday Zana Bayne event curated by Nikki of Dirty Flaws at Artisan Tattoo, Gallery & Piercing Boutique on Penn Avenue in East Liberty. Check out the Dirty Flaws blog for more coverage of the event, as well as a profile on myself and makeup artist, Shana Lohr.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support us that night, and stay tuned for details of our next collaboration!
Changes are afoot! I have lots of exciting plans in the works… they aren’t all set in stone yet, so without saying too much, for now I shall just update you on a few new additions to my galleries.
Stay tuned to find out what I’m up to!
1: Kate, one of my long term extension clients decided a new chapter in her life needed a new look, so we took them out and gave her an edgy blunt bob. I think we can all agree she rocks them both!
2: Shortly before the new look, Kate appeared in America, the new video for Motionless in White.
3: These fine dreadlocks belong to Nick, a regular client who also has some extensions in there, to create a more uniform length.
4: Another regular, Joseph coming in for his bi-annual maintenance.
5: Hannah is growing out a short mohawk, and wanted more length for styling options, so we used extensions to give her a long-hawk.
6: Another great update picture from Janice, who I started these dreadlocks for one year ago. All self maintenance.
7: Styling for an actress client of mine named Meridith for some new headshots. Photography by Rudolf Bekker.
8: More of the lovely Meridith.
9: Mel was tired of stylists telling her there’s no such thing as a permanent true red. We proved them wrong, and gave her a sweet new cut, just to rub it in!
A little update from the last couple of months.
As always, you can find all of these images in the galleries as well!
1: Kiss, who is an accessories and apparel designer as well as a promoter wanted something epic and eyecatching. We used a combination of ombre colour, and custom dyed extensions to get this look.
2: Starr wanted a warm blonde for the summer, so we lightened her existing shade with heavy highlights, and a honey toned base colour.
3: Hair for a performance by the dance company Body Collider. Their show had a ‘high fashion’ concept, and featured clothing from a designer with a very minimalist approach. The hair had to withstand a performance that was very physical, so it had to be solid and immovable. I used an opaque white hair gel combined with temporary white and silver sprays for these looks.
4: Jess wanted something colourful and fun, with a cool colour palette, so we kept it mermaidesque with blues, greens and purples.
5: This client wanted a pink ombre for the summer. We kept it pretty vibrant so that she could wear it as a pastel as it faded out, giving her a little more mileage before she has to refresh the colour.
6: Here is someone who was looking for a drastic change! She had a lot of hair and wanted something short and funky.
We are very excited to announce that we have switched our colour/product line at Salon No. 15 over to Pravana!
As some of you who are personal friends may know, I have been vegetarian for 25+ years, and vegan for about the last 8 or 9 of those. Brianna, who owns the salon was raised vegetarian, and so we both feel strongly about using products that are cruelty free.
Pravana is not an entirely vegan company, but they have very strict anti animal testing policies in place, so you can be sure that none of our furry friends were harmed in the pursuit of your services.
(Vegans should note that the permanent colours do contain silk, which obviously means those are not vegan friendly. Some of the styling products may contain beeswax. I will be posting a list as soon as they get back to me with one.)
Hello my lovelies!
Here’s a little of what I’ve been up to the past couple of months!
1: This one was really fun! This is an existing client who got all new 22″ extensions, with custom peach-toned pastel colour.
2: An extension re-do for an existing client. I had forgotten to take a before picture the first time, so this is to show the before & after.
3: A maintenance session for a client with well established dreadlocks. About 6 months since the last maintenance.
4: Some behind the scenes images from Kate’s gothic Day of the Dead themed book cover shoot. Also pictured is Brianna O’ Hara, another stylist from the salon, who did the make up.
5: One of the beautiful images from a shoot for Kate’s second book cover. Sort of a gothic Day of the Dead vibe.
6: A high ponytail up-do that we did for an event Kate was going to. Inspired by the b&w image in the top left.
7: Some pictures of my own hair. I’m wearing 22″ extensions, with a custom ombre colour gradient. All done by myself, of course!
8: A fun haircut that we did for Sara, not inspired by Star Trek, but ended up being a kind of Romulan/Vulcan hybrid, which makes me love it even more!
9: The first maintenance session for some dreadlocks I started for a fellow cat lady a few months ago.
It’s been a while! Here’s a little bit of what I’ve been up to since… oh dear. April!
You know when you leave something so long, it gets to a point where there’s so much to say you just have no idea how to even start?
I am at that point, so I’m just going to list some fun stuff , show you some pictures, and leave you with a promise that I hereby resolve to be better about updating in 2013.
I wrote it on my blog, so that means it’s real!
1:I styled Kendra for about a million shows, here’s one of them.
2:Becca and Kate were snapped by Inked Magazine at the NYC convention this year, which would never have happened if I hadn’t done their hair that day, obvi!
3:I made some gold ladies to promote Kendra’s press release party for her album, Banshee.
4:Stine and I came up with this Yolandi Visser inspired short cut that caught the attention of the lady herself (fangirl moment).
5:I made some pretty fingerwaves for a flapper themed party.
6,7:I started some new dreadlocks.
8:I shaved off some old ones.
9,10:I maintained some existing ones.
11:I even extended some a little bit, to achieve a more uniform length.
12,13,14:I did some sweet extensions.
14:I started one of those extension clients on her journey away from 7 years of the dreaded Triple B; Box Black Buildup.
15:A client and I realized how far she’d come by growing her hair out with extensions, so we bragged about it on the internet.
15:We had a pop-up shop for our highly talented good friend’s clothing/accessory line, Ssik Kiss.
16:And finally, on a more personal note, I made the greatest family photo holiday card ever. Feel free to print that out for your bedroom wall, cat-pervs

This is Axel. He’s been serving witchcraft realness since before The Kids buying “Black Magic” shot glasses at Urban Outfitters were even born.
Trust me when I say his soul is blacker and more evil than yours. If you live in or around New York, you probably know of him, he’s something of a legend.
Also, he’s a total sweetheart and lives on the same block as our salon, so we had an art show for him tonight. He made the amazing baphomet on my belt that everybody covets. You can spot his pieces in Lady Gaga videos, but who cares about that when you can wear a crown of thorns with an eyeball in the middle of it, or wield a sword like this one?
My pictures don’t do his artwork justice, so I pilfered some better ones from this 2001 article about a collaborative show he did with John John Jesse, but really you should just come to the salon and see them for yourselves. We will have them up for a few weeks, and we have prints as well as the originals for sale. They are all painted in his own blood.

Salon friend, and personal bestie, Kendra Morris released her second single from her album. It dropped today on MTV Buzzworthy where they had this to say about the hair in the video:
“…expressions of apathetic bad-assery, and absurdly amazing hair. (Between Kendra’s brown waves and the lustrous black mane sported by her man-friend, we’re experiencing maj coiffure envy.)”
I mean… I’m just sayin’…
(I styled Kendra’s and also her love interest, a long time friend of mine, Steven Astbury’s hair for this video)
We spent a week in beautiful, sunny LA for this shoot. It was tough I tell ya!

Updating my site, that is!
So, this is very late in coming, but here is the ‘Concrete Waves’ video for Kendra Morris that we all worked so hard on last summer. This post is so late, in fact, that her new video, ‘If You Didn’t Go’ comes out next week, and also the video for the B-side, ‘Pulling Teeth’.
So, until next week, enjoy ‘Concrete Waves’.
